HELP - Poppy isn't well...

She is off her food, she hasn't eaten much since last night, this is not normal for her. It's not like when she went off her food when she was in season, she still took food from us, this time she won't. I left her food out this morning, along with a couple of markies and when I got home it was all still there. Tonight we gave her some cheese, she spat it out, I offered her some cat food (she normally tries to get the cat food all the time) she didn't want that, she didn't even want any of hubby's dinner which she would normally love.

I'm really worried because she isn't her normal self, I can see it in her eyes and she looks really sorry for herself. She didn't even greet hubby when he got home tonight - even he said "what's wrong with her". She seems really tired.

I called the vets and they said to take her in tonight, but I just wondered if I was overreacting and have made an appointment for tomorrow morning (I'll have to get the morning off work so hopefully my boss will be understanding - he's not the most considerate of bosses). But now I'm thinking maybe I should have gone tonight because what if she gets really bad in the night and stuff... Hubby's parents say to give her tomorrow and if she's still not right take her tomorrow night not tomorrow morning...

I've checked her mouth, pressed all over to see if she yelps and nothing. She hasn't been sick and her poop was normal tonight - even if there wasn't a lot of it! Her nose is dry as well. What if she has something stuck, what if she's got an infection, what if, what if... help guys.

It could just be she doesn’t feel well.

Does she keep getting up and moving around like she can’t get comfortable. If yes, go to the Emergency Vet tonight still.

Besides being off food, her temperature is normal? Is she drinking fluids? You didn't find any evidence that she vomited?

It sounds like she's backed up.

Check out this thread, how do the symptoms compare?

Thanks for the quick reply Dax.

Nope, she gets comfortable straight away and then goes to sleep - she looks very tired.

I don't have a thermometer or a chip scanner (her microchip has a thermometer in it) but I could go buy one and see.

I haven't seen her drink since I got home, but she doesn't drink much anyway - I have done the skin test to see if she is dehydrated and it goes straight back down.

Nope, can't find any evidence that she vomited - what do you mean by backed up?

Just noticed your last bit about the other post, she hasn't got any of those symptoms.

Constipated or full of gas. What happens is you feel so full you can't eat more or even think of eating another thing. Sounds like a bug. Let her rest - nature's best medicine.

Great news - bloat would be my biggest worry. If it goes on more than 24 hours - taking her in to the vet is a good precaution.

I hope this doesn't ruin your Easter plans.

Noooo not my daughter in-law!!! I hope shes feeling better soon. Hugs from me and Oscar. Just kidding about the daughter in-law stuff. I know that would offend Kirby. LOL

Thank Exile, I'll give Poppy a big hug and kiss from Oscar.

Dax, I thought a bug too, just didn't want it to turn in to a chest infection or anything like that. I've known about the symptoms of bloat since I got her (they also taught us about it at the Puppy Parties) so I am always on the look out for that because I know how bad that can get in such a short time. I will change the vet appointment and see how she is tomorrow evening when I get home from work. If she still isn't right then I'll take her in.

As for Easter plans, if she's OK then we'll still be going. If we go to the vets and he suspects a bug or something that could be passed to other dogs then we probably won't go. Whisky has a heart condition and I'd hate for him to catch something from Poppy that would make him worse.

Awww Baby, so sorry about Poppy! Both of my dogs have had wierd periods...but they usually come out of it all by themselves. But definitely keep an eye on her and obviously you should take her to the vet if she won't eat and seems depressed. Good luck!
