nail cut too short

Carl was cutting Peabody's nail and he jerked and Carl cut below the quick. Poor Peabody!! How do I stop the bleeding and I know it must hurt, so what can I put on it to help the pain?

The best home remedy I could find was corn starch.....pack a bit on the end of the nail and hold pressure on it. You can get those stypic pencils at the drug store or pet supply store.
And tell Carl not to feel bad.....it happens to most people now and again.

Mara's right cornstarch will do the trick, even a little flour. We all do it and all feel bad

Poor Peadbody. Don't feel too bad, as you've already heard, we've all done it....and feel guilty. Just give Peabody an extra hug and kiss.

i know this was yesterday and hopefully has been remedied by now but i hit fays quick really bad once quick stop and flour werent working so after like a half hour harrison called the e-vet to ask what they thought i should do and they said to keep continuous pressure on it and keep it elevated...after a few minuets it stopped...and i no longer cut her nails myself shes flails around too much...i may try a dremmel i just dont want to fork out the money and have the dogs be afraid of it

Try clicker training with the Dremel before even applying it to your dog's nail. Also, desensitize your dog to foot handling. You will then be very successful using a Dremel and wonder why you haven't done this before!

I think most if not all of us have hit a quick at one time or another. Janis they sell this power in PetSmart that will stop the bleeding. We always keep it in the house. Any updates on Peabody?

with my other girls i think they will be fine with it which is what pretty much has me decided to get one...its just faye is so neurotic from my assumption is pretty severe abuse from before we found her i dont know how she will handle it...she allows the vet to do it with minimal fighting but that is because shes so nervous shes practically frozen
