Has anyone ever heard of progeria in dogs?

My best friend has a Chow mix who has progeria, I think it's called. Not sure on the spelling or specific details on the condition/disease. The dog also has a thyroid problem and has no teeth. I guess, basically what it is, for each month that the dog is alive, her body ages one year. It's very sad, and the vet said it was a super rare case. The dog, Hannah, is just SUPER sweet and good natured.

No, I've never heard of it in animals. That would be too sad to even comprehend.

I am not sure what kind of diagnosis she has, and her quality of life...what do you mean? I know she is happy.

Yes, I agree with Dev and you, AtomicSkies, it is extremely sad . Hannah is such a sweetie.

I've never heard of it in animals. Yes, it's an extreme aging disease (in humans).
How very, very sad.

Oh yes, VERY much so. She is HAPPY. But, she has many health issues, just like an old dog would, even though she is only two years old. Their vet is actually very surprised that she has lived this long. She is obese because of her thyroid condition, she has severe arthritis, one tooth, and dandruff. She is just overall kind of deteriorating. The obesity I know is due in part because they free feed their dogs (something I do NOT think they should be doing with their dog), but there isn't really anything I can do to stop them because I've already talked to them about it.

What's pts? And they are planning on having her live out her life as far as I know. She seems happy, despite her condition.
