Cellulitis?

Yesterday we noticed a small lump on Alfie's neck. It was slightly inflamed and seemed to be bumpy if that makes any sense. I felt around and found two more spots that were very similar on both his front legs. I thought it may be warts. Called the vet and made an appointment for today. Vet says he has cellulitis. I looked a bit on the net and couldn't find much on it in dogs. Any advice? He's on antibiotics for the next two weeks. The vet said that it's not really anything to worry about right now but if it continues to get worse it may have to be removed. I'd really like to avoid another surgery on the pup. Anyone have any information about this that I could read or any experience with it?

Thanks!

This is a new topic for me Quin. I am going to sit back and save this for the big guns in here who know about this. Thanks for posting because I know I will learn something from this.

Interesting article. Haven't noticed any difference in Alfie's behavior. He does have the little zit like bumps though. Almost like very small pieces of rice, but it's not rice, it's skin. Hard to explain. I'm going to try to get a picture of it to show you. May be difficult since they only shave the top of his neck where it is worse, but it's way more swollen. The little rice bumps are on his legs. Ah, I just want this to go away. It's making me really paranoid. Doesn't sound like it's contagious so I shouldn't have to worry about it spreading to Faust. The vet also recommended neosporin (sp?) and doing some warm compresses with Epsom. I think I'm going to run to the store and pick up some Epsom tonight to start that.

Sorry the pics aren't the best, but it's the best I was able to get with my camera. The little flesh spots are actually the bumps popping off his leg. The first pic shows them the best. You can also see on his neck where the infection has moved to the surface. I think they nicked it shaving it cause it wasn't bleeding before that. I'm guessing they hit some of the flesh pimple thingys. Oh it hurts my heart.

Did the vet do a skin scraping/biopsy of one of the sites?

No, she said that she's seen in before and seemed pretty confident. I guess she's seen in before and has had to remove really bad cases. If it doesn't starte clearing up in a week or so I may request that they do one just to ease my mind.

I found 2 sites:
Dog Cellulitis - RightHealth Topic Page - Medical Information for Dog Cellulit

Interpreting Canine Bacterial Dermatitis

Hope this helps.
