Faking being tired
OK.. I have been walking the dogs from 3-6 miles about 4-6 days a week. Today, we went for our walk, and all three were acting tired and worn out. Devlin even stopped to lay in the shade a minute. It was not real hot or humid out (76 degrees, nice breeze, we walk through a neighborhood with lots of shade.)
I get them home and put them in the back yard with their baby pool, and they IMMEDIATELY start bum tucking and chasing all over the yard. I typically don't put human emotions on dogs, as I know better. But we have been home for about an hour and they are not resting like I thought they would, but still playing. Can they be faking it? |

I don't believe dogs can fake anything unless they have no survival instincts whatsoever. Faking being tired or injured lets other dogs know that they are in a weak state, so they are an easy target to be attacked by others.
My dogs usually get tired on walks easily, I think it's because they expend so much energy pulling, sniffing, and being joyful/anxious/curious/over the top excited that they're out of the house that they are winded easily. |

That's why I doubt that they are faking. What I am trying to figure out is why they seemed so winded and then got home and were wired for sound.
Remember... My crew is in very good physical shape. They walk 3-6 miles 4-6 days a week. Train agility 2-3 times a week, obedience or herding on the other days. Dog shows most weekends, and get to spend 6-8 hours out in my fenced yard daily. They are not over weight at all, and are being fed Nature's Variety Raw Instinct which has a fairly high protein level, plus the Nature's Variety Raw as well. If I only took them for this walk occasionally, I could buy it... But we did the longer one yesterday and the day before... I just don't get them sometimes. |

It sounds like they'd rather play than walk. As long as they're letting off steam...I wouldn't worry.

Going on a long, hot, boring walk is definitely more tiresome than a fun baby pool! I might be roasting hot, feeling like I'm dying hot, in my house without air conditioner hot (I think you get the point), but give me the boyfriend or girl friend and a bottle of water, and you'll bet I'll make some fun out of spraying them with it no matter how hot I am.
So basically, no I don't think they are faking it. I think they have some nice cool water on a hot day and are taking advantage of it. |

They are no fools! They know when they have had enough. Mel did this to me this morning, he cannot walk more than a block anyway, but this morning was hot and humid and he abruptly stopped halfway and turned around to go home.

They probably only wanted to play!
