skin irritation

Mt dachshund has is itching all the time. Mostly on her tummy. She gets tiny little sores also.
Around the sores there is starting to be brown color. You would think it was poop by the color but it does not smell.
I had the vet look at her and she tested her for yeast and it was negative. She didn't really know what it was but gave her a shot to help with the itching. The shot was very painful but it did help.
Anyone have any ideas what her problem could be?

Could be an allergy. Perhaps household products? Maybe she has laid down on the floor and a chemical used to clean could be irritating her. The brown could be dried blood if she is itching constantly.

It actually started when there was snow on the ground. The vet said it was from getting wet but she sure isn't getting wet now.

Did you change brands in any household product? Or even some ingredients in dog food can cause allergies. Though since it is located only on her stomach that leads me to believe it's something she is laying in.

No change in food or household products. We did have more snow this year and it was much deeper.

Sounds like allergies. Is it seasonal? Depending on the type of allergy, it could flare up certain times of the year. We had our dog on cephalexin (antibiotic) a few times a year when his allergies flared up.

This started when there was snow on the ground. Her legs are so short her tummy drags in the ground. The vet thought it was from being wet in the snow but she still has it even though the snow is gone.

Could be a food allergy. Common culprits:

Corn, Wheat, Gluten, Caisen, Soy, Barley (Wheat's evil twin) and some dairy. Sometimes a dog can be allergic to a protein in a food. For example, my next door neighbor's dog is highly allergic to chicken.

The only way they found out what is was to do structured elimination diet.

I'm just adding onto the food suggestions. It could be the food (specifically ingredients) that your dog has been eating. Poorer quality brand foods (or if your dog gets in contact with foreign material) generally contain less reliable ingredients, and may eventually cuase toxins accumulate within your dog and will eventually show through the skin and other exterior areas of your dog (so may time some time). They get rid of these toxins through the skin, so that rash may have occurred because of something similar to this. This is just another opinion, I'm not a qualified expert in this area, so I'm not trying to persuade you that this is the reason.

Sounds like allergies. Try a holistic food with no grains or glutens.
