Sheet rock joint compound powder

Strange title for the health forum, huh? Well, Jack is covered in it. I put my three dogs out in the kennel at the house that I am dog sitting at this morning. They all got me up really early and I wanted to go back to sleep so the easiest thing would be to put mine out and leave the 2 danes in. I never thought to check the kennel over since they use it for their youngest dane. I go back out this A.M and Jack is covered in white cr ap. First I thought it was paint but then realized what it is. Here is a bucket of joint compound powder in the kennel and Jack got it everywhere. On his head, belly and it it caked on his legs. So now I am in a panic that he ate some. So I call my vet and they told me to check the toxicity warning on it and if it was highly toxic to get him to the emergency clinic immediately. I check the bucket and it has nothing. Not what to do if you get it in your eyes or if you ingest it. So I stop at Menard's (kinda like home depot) and ask if I could get an MSDS sheet. They thought that I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about. So I left.

I had to go out to lunch with a friend so I left Jack under the supervision of one of my friends that if he shows even the smallest signs of distress to call me and take him up to the emergency clinic.

He seems fine. His same old do rky self. He was playing with her kids all day. But I am worried about his digestive system. Should I worry? I have no idea and my vet is just clueless (even after 3 frustrating phone calls from me).

Drywall compound is mostly Gypsum rock ground up. (plaster of paris) it will dehyrdate skin. Make sure he is drinking lots & lots of water. I have known lots of dogs that have eaten drywall (paper & all) with no bad effect.

Gee.. you're making me blush. How's he doing now? We had a horse eat a bucket full of the stuff once. You should have seen his face. LOL.

Jack seems to be doing just fine. He is eating and drinking normally and his bowel movements are great. Here I am the worrywort, like always. He still has some caked behind his elbows and he is being quite crabby about letting me clean it off. Oh, well, if the do rk wants to look like a do rk what can I do about it?
