loss of appetite due to antibiotics/spay mishap
My 1 year old yorkshire terrier was given a 2 week supply of Amoxitabs, an antibiotic, for her UTI. Now her appetite has decreased and is not even interested in her food or treats. Is this normal? She still eats, but I really have to persuade her to do it.
Also, it turns out, her spay which was done 6 months ago was not complete. Apparently the doctor missed something, so now she is in heat. Is it dangerous to have another operation to complete the spay? My male dog, which was neutered, completely ignores her whenever she tries to entice him. She teases him and stands in front of him. Is it normal for the male to ignore the female if he has been neutered? |

Perfectly normal for a neutered male to show no interest in her. That is why you had him fixed.
I would go ahead and have the other surgery done to remove all the ovarian material. It should not be anymore risky for her than the first one although the doctor might have a harder time identifying the structures to remove. As for the loss of appetite, etc on the antibotics - it might be a combination of the heat and the meds. Keep offering smaller meals more often until she is better. I would take some of her normal food and offer as training treats throughout the day. If it goes on for more than 1 week - you should go back to the vet. As long as she is drinking and eating something for now - you should be ok. Last edited by Dax; 03-28-2005 at 01:14 PM. |
