Canine Dentisty

Does anyone brush their dogs teeth?

I recently started doing it for my dogs. To say the least, they nearly hate it! But it's really important. I don't want them getting Gingivitis, loosing teeth, stinky breath etc.

Anybody have any hints for what they do with their dogs to get them to like the experience?

I bought Mint toothpaste (from the pet store).. cause Louise's breath is starting to get bad. But I think the mint is what they dislike the most. Maybe I should try the chicken/liver flavor?

Hmm, not exactly any real ideas here. However, if your dogs need any advice on how to make YOU hate the experience, I've got stories to tell. When Max first came into my life, I attempted the same thing - brushing, that is. Well, Max quickly got me to drop the toothpaste and toothbrush and tackle bad breath, gingivitis, etc. by giving him "appropriate" dog treats... It was MUCH easier for both of us!

I do it, every week or so. I give Greenies for teeth in between.

I use peanutbutter flavoured toothpaste and baking soda. He loves it but I also use my fingers, instead of a toothbrush.

My dogs get greenies and tons of other natural bones PLUS good quality treats.
They have white teeth. Our vet has marveled at their dental health.
I would brush if the need were there but we don't have a need.....yet
I'd say go with the chew treats ect they LOVE it!!!
I say puppy treats and they all come running, tripping over eachother it's quite the show On the other hand it does hurt to step on those hard bones in the dark
