Question Little freaked out here and need some help

Okay I thought I would ask here before rushing off to the vet....only because it is not life threating.

I was playing with Hudson's feet today and the nub. While playing with the nub....hang on let me back track...

Last year I was walking Hudson when I noticed his nub wsa bleeding rather badly. I carried the beast home, even though he didnt seem to be in any pain. Upon examination I noticed the blood was coming from one of the two claws on the nub. Now he had one normal claw and one that stuck straight up in the air. It was the one that stuck straight up that was bleeding. So off to the vet we went, where the vet said he had dislocated his claw and it needed to come off. So we had the minor surgery and soon discovered that the claw was not only dislocated but the ligaments were torn as well. Either way we ended up removing the whole claw right from the very base. ( http://www.prodoggroomingsupplies.co...t=Hudsons+claw ) **Pics on page two**

Now that brings up to today....I was playing with the nub and flet something stuck in his fur....took a closer look and saw what looks like a new claw trying to grow in, or bone being pushed out.

I know it is kind of hard to see but it is just that little picece of bone or whatever right by my thumb.

So now....could this be a nail growing back in even though we removed the whole thing? Or is the bone being pushed thru? Has anyone seen this before?

Oh and this is growing right where the old claw used to be.

i didnt know it was possible to dislocate a claw...learned something new...i *think* if the nail bed was still intact that a new nail could grow...but i could be totally off with that one

I've heard of that happening with Ripped off nails. All that it takes is a little of the root left to regrow.

I'd watch it and keep track of it for you next regular vet appointment.

Kirby has a regrowth of a dewclaw on one of his front legs. It's very small and a weird shape because the original was removed when he was a puppy. It doesn't grow at a constant rate either.

Dakota had a nail removed completely by the vet a while back. The vet said that sometimes they grow back in. Hers came back exactly as it had left. It looks completely normal.

So this is probably the nail coming back and not a piece of bone being pushed thru his skin?

Do you think I should have it looked at by my vet or should I just wait and see what happens?

I would watch it and try to stop poking it

Seriously- if one molecule of nail bed tissue is left behind a nail will regrow- often in weird shapes and sizes. I really doubt it is anything to worry about.

Kirby's is a weird shape and size. And I kept pulling it when I first found it, then I looked and realized that it was attached. LOL

Looks like so...
