What a terrible scary day! I really need to vent!
I got home from work today, I was gone 4 hours. I go upstairs to let the dogs out and Cash is pacing and screaming in pain. So here I am thinking oh no he must really have to poo! So I run him downstairs and the whole time he is screaming and has his back bent in pain. He gets outside and just lays flat in a huge puddle. We are in the middle of a huge storm, tornado warnings every where, pouring rain. So I call him back to me and feel his belly and its rock hard. Like all large breed dog owners I panic. Call my vet and rush him in. As soon as I walk in the door she grabs him and throws him on the xray table. All the while he is still screaming in pain so she gives him a pain shot. The films come out and luckily there is no GRD or tosion. But the back part looks real strange. There is alot of poo but also like a big mass of something.
She tells me that she doesnt have the staff to do an exploratory surgery and that I will have to take him to the ER right away and she will go ahead and put the line in him and prep him for me to save some money. She estimates a couple thousand will be the cost and when she said it I of course burst into tears. I dont have a couple thousand!
Well she loves me and calls in another vet she knows and trusts and asks him if he will do the surgery. He says yes and will stay in late after hours and it will only be $1500. I was so relieved and terrified all at the same time. So she gives me the directions and off we go at 100 miles an hour. Thank god for my GPS or I never would have found the other office in the terrified state I was in. We get there and the staff was really friendly. The vet looks over the xrays and is really puzzled by then so he asks if he can do another set? Sure! Anything to find out what it is and possibly avoid surgery.
Btw Cash even in all his pain and panting was so good on the xray table both times. The second vet even did them by himself with no tech! kept going on and on about what a good dog he was.

The films come out and its clearly a better picture. All the organs are in the right place but there is a backage of like 5 days of poo in him. Here is my fault, I let all my dogs out at once in the back and then go get ready, i never watch to see who goes and who doesnt!

Bad me. He gives him some cortizone for the pain again, and checks out his anal glands but nothing wrong there. Finally he poo's some outside. But there is still a ton in there.
For now Cashy is home with me, with some more laxative to see if we can get it all out. If he does get it all out and is still in pain then we go back in to do more tests tomorrow. If he doesnt get it out.. we go back in for a emima. My prayer is he gets it all out and he is fine and it turns out to be $400 poo.
I have never been so scared by my dogs before. I was a complete wreck. My father in law is a preacher and left his ministry to come to the clinic as soon as my mother in law called and told him what was going on. I was so glad to have some one care enough to come and was just as worried as I was. I love my Cashy! So please, everyone pray with me that this is just a $400 poo.

Going to take him back outside now to see if anything comes out. Thanks for listening.
