bloody stool/sticking to rear?

We have a 4 month puppy who is a Pomeranian/Poodle Cross. A few times she has had issues with her poo sticking to her rear.. in pretty big chunks. I didn't really think a whole lot of this except today when she came in I think I also noticed blood on her fur back there when I tried to wipe some of the poo off and now I am worried

She has been eating perfectly fine, her energy and how she acts (crazy, lol) hasn't changed at all) We have recently started to feed her Iams puppy proactive something instead of Science Diet puppy.. I think we have already determined her stomach is pretty sensitive, but we were careful in switching her food over..

Anything we can do to help her?

It could be parasite related, I dont care for either of those foods personally. I suggest a vet visit. We are pet owners. We are not able to medically diagnose your pet over the internet or even in person, thats why we go to vets.

In terms of poo sticking to the bum... Well, it's part of being a hairy dog. lol. If you haven't already been, I would suggest a trip to the groomer's to get the sanitary tidied up to help combat that problem. Otherwise, just comb the area regularly to keep the hair going in the wrong directions and causing poo mats. (Ew, lol)

The blood is something that I would definitely visit the vet for. Make note of any other changes in the dog. If the stool is loose or not, if the dog is eating/drinking/peeing normally, acting more anxious or lethargic, etc, etc.

If you can clip down her backend then that would help you in determing if there is, indeed, blood. I clip down Emma (my Pom) on a regular basis. I, too dislike the food.

Sorry Em, but I really dislike clipping down the whole rear end (if that's what you meant?), especially with a dog that carries its tail up over it's back.

A Pom should be scissored flat on an angle corresponding to its pelvic bone- I do a bit of clippering, but very carefully and not a wide swath at all. If scissored carefully and correctly you still get all the benefits but without the giant bullseye.

If the poop is consistently of a sticky texture I would look to the food and do some tweaking.
As far as the blood it could be any number of things from parasites to anal fissures to obstructions to internal bleeds. Best see a vet on this one. In a dog this young I would guess protozoal parasites maybe, but the sooner you get it cleared up the better. It is certainly not normal.

Sorry Cear...I misspoke. What I do is scissor just around the 'sticky areas'. Just enough to clear the area. Hope this helps.
