I'm posting this for my boyfriend.
His 4 year old Mini Dachshund Max is having some problems with his eyes. Just a brief history, Max was acting off about 2-3 weeks ago, and was taken to the vet and they found out he had a liver infection. He was put on antibiotics for a week (or so). After he got off those pills he started having green eye goop in his left eye. Again, taken to the vet, and they thought it was an infected tear duct. I went over there last night to give Max his pill (as well as let him out to potty and feed him etc) , and noticed both were goopy, so I wiped them and told the boyfriend. He said it used to just be one eye. He talked to his mom earlier today, and she said the pills he's on currently are for his eyes (BF thought they were still the liver pills..). BF also says he isn't noticing much of an improvement. What else could be causing this? It's green and icky and from what I saw, seems to form in the inside corner of his eyes. When I was there he was also rubbing his face in the carpet alot. I thought maybe allergies to a pill, or maybe food (was put on a diff food a couple months ago though). Any Ideas?? Poor dog seems uncomfortable and I feel bad. -T |

If it's green/yellow, it is not an allergic reaction, it is definitely an infection of some sort. An allergic reaction would be more watery. I don't have many ideas, hopefully someone else does!

I have no clue what kind of food he was put on (not my doggie :S. boyfriend doesn't know either because his mom changed it).
He's been on the eye pills for almost a week the BF said. So shouldn't they be helping by now? -T |

No one here can really offer anything substantive without knowing the diagnosis and the medication involved. If we knew those two things we might come up with some relevant experience, but absent that information it's just guesswork. Maybe look at the receipt- it usually has pertinent information listed. |

I agree. The discharge is not from allergies but from some irritant or infection. Are there any eye lashes that are turned inward? (just a thought).
