Greyhound Racetrack Closing.... Leaving Hundreds of Dogs Homeless!
(cross posting per request) ... mods, please delete if inappropriate. If so, sorry in advance.
I read an article on another forum, and thought that I would share the information with you all, as these dogs REALLY need help ASAP! The Woodlands Greyhound Racetrack will be closing on August 24th, 2008. There are about 600 dogs at the track, and the Greyhound rescues are estimating that they will only be able to get around 200 of the dogs into rescue. That leaves around 400 dogs homeless. Woodlands racetrack is one of the one-stop race tracks, and after the track closes, the remaining dogs will be returned to their breeders, where they will most likely be put down. I find this extremely sad. The Woodlands racetrack is located in Kansas City. R.E.G.A.P. (Retired Greyhounds as Pets) in Kansas City is seeking people to help out. They are in need of foster homes, potential adopters, help with transporting the dogs, ect. If you can help out in any way, please contact R.E.G.A.P. at ( 816 ) - 763 - 3333. Even if you cannot help in any of the ways listed above, you can still help by spreading the word. Forward this information to all of your friends, ect. Thanks in advance!

I read on another forum that most of the dogs are being transfered to other tracks, and those that will not go are placed with the rescue. While the situation is pitiful, its not as frightening as first feared...

I know of a rescue in Connecticut but they only have foster based system no actual rescue. I kind of want to ask my parents if they would let me foster one at their house, I think it would be a good dog for them they might even find that they like the breed. Many people say they're hypoallergenic but I'm not sure I believe that.

Shew, good to know the situation's not as urgent/scary as it first sounded. *breathes a sigh of relief*
