The Great Zazu-A Petfinder Happy Ending Story

Following is a picture of my daughter's new dog Zazu. In May, we had been talking for a long time about my daughter getting a dog, as she lives alone and wanted some companionship. She had been looking at puppies and was pretty set on a maltese, but one day I found an ad on Petfinder for a "Cairn Terrier-Irish Terrier" mix. From the picture she just looked like a little, black hairy dog. I called my daughter at work and told her I was going to look at this dog and if she was "the one" I was going to bring her to my daughter. When I showed up there was this little hairy black dog with Yoda ears and mile-long legs. I took her little shivery self for a walk and whenever I stopped to bend down and talk to her and pet her, she crawled into my lap and licked me...thoroughly. They thought she was about 10 months old. She was pretty skinny and someone had done a real hack job on her hair-especially in her potty area, but there was just something about her. They closed at 4:30, so I took her back to her cage and they said they would give her a bath. I went to Walmart (we don't have a good petstore) and bought her a crate, bed, leash, etc. When I went back she still smelled pretty bad and she had a huge mat on her head and several around her mouth. I paid her bail and also gave an extra donation and off we went to Lexington (90 miles). She laid in my lap with her head on my chest or on my thigh the whole way. I stopped several times to let her go potty-then she would assume her position again. My daughter has named her Zazu-she's been spayed (she was pregnant, but it looked to the vet as if the puppies were being reabsorbed), chipped, vaccinated well-fed and thoroughly loved. Two more wonderful points-she would have been put to sleep on the following Tuesday. May was the first month the county shelter (one county over) had ever posted on petfinder. Zazu is a joy-she is so active, so playful and so loveable-we're happy we found her!
