I Think I May Be Losing Mel

It has been a very rough few weeks with Mel since he has lost his appetite. He was at the vet last week for a full blood work up and nothing came back abnormal. He will not eat dry food, only canned, so I spent a ton of money at Petsupermarket on canned food. I am afraid it is only a matter of time before he stops eating this.

I have noticed he does not want to go out for his walk in the morning, he breathes very heavy and moves very slow, so we have cut him back to walking to the street and back. This morning he could not get up and wet himself, which I know really upset him. We had to both lift him this morning to go out to potty, he was so frustrated he stared to cry, which made me cry He did take care of business, which is a good thing. Breakfast time came and he seemed interested, he was able to get up on his own and joined me in the kitchen, I was so excited, we did a happy dance. He looked a the dry food and walked away, so I opened a can and he ate it. Did another happy dance. I was cracking open a hard boiled egg for breakfast and he joined Buddy at my side Of course, I gave him the yokes, one of his favorite snacks.

It is scaring me to death, when you celebrate them eating something and getting up on their own, it is not a good sign. So, my husband may be going back to the vet today, we think that his arthritis has gotten very bad and he is in pain, which is why he has a hard time getting up and possibly why he does not want to eat. I am hoping they can give him something that will not affect his heart meds.

Keep my baby in your thoughts please

I'm sorry
It's never easy watching them go downhill.

FWIW I had excellent results using Metacam for advanced arthritis- it kept my old girl with me for a good bonus year. She was a cardiac case as well.

I hope the vet can help poor Mel! It's so heartbreaking seeing them like that.

Hugs to you and Mel.

Ali, have you tried Flexicose and Dog Gone Pain? Seriously, those two things I believe gave Hannah her life back. She went from yelping every day to actually running around in short spurts again.

Is Metacam a prescription from the vet? I think that is what my husband is going to ask for today, If this is the same thing I am thinking of we gave this to him years ago when he hurt his arm and it worked wonders..fingers crossed.

Oh Ali that's so sad. If he doesn't want the canned food try some boiled rice and chicken. I am sure the vet can give him something for the pain. Here's hoping (all paws crossed here) that they can help him and you get passed this crisis.
