Unhappy

Hi,
I have had a 8 week old jack russel terrior puppy now for 2 weeks and I know from reading there forums that puppies like to bite and play. so far everytime that she has come in the house she starts playing and then gets to biting. I have tried verbal and it doesnt work and then whenever I "pop" her it seems to make her mad and she starts barking and biting harder. We have bought her toys and other stuff to chew on but it doesnt seem to work. I am new to having a dog like this and any suggestions would help greatly, thanks

The pup may be testing your leadership with him. You must always be in control without hurting the pup.

Act early or this trait will continue when the pup gets older

When the dog starts biting - tell him no, then ignore him. Teach him that if starts to bite you're not going to play with him.

What I do if telling him no doesn't work and ignoring doesn't work then as a last resport when they bite I grab either the tongue or the side of their lip. You don't hold hard enough to hurt only to upset. As you are holding either their tongue or lip say "no bite" firmly while looking straight into their eyes. Some will test continuely for a few days but I garentee this works. When you hold the tongue your fingers should be on the top of the tongue and the thumb underneath. For the lip the fingers inside the lip and the thumb outside. Hold only for 30 seconds then let go. Make sure to praise him when he doesn't try to grab you agian.
