Please can you give advice

Hi well the problem is my dog when she goes out the back she eats mud and grass all the time, i dont think it is her lack of protein in her dog food because she is fed twice a day daily with pedigree small bite and or PAL Butchers moist dogs food or Pedigree. She was a rescue dog so could it be possible where she was not fed propley thats all she could live off was that because she was found skinny and wondering the streets and coverd in mange

thanks guys for all your suggestions
me and Luna appreciate it

Some dogs just like the taste. However, Pedigree is not the highest quality food and it very well could be a lack of essential nutrients. Can you try switching her diet to something a little more substantial? A few reasonably priced ideas are:

Premium Edge
Canidae
Natural Balance
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul

A few more pricey, but excellent quality ones are:
Fromm
Innova
Artemis
Evo
Orijen

The higher quality food the less you feed. So if you're feeding something like Artemis, it's going to be a lot more expensive to buy the bag, but will level out a bit because you feed smaller amounts and have to buy the bag less frequently.

I hope this helps a little. I knew a dog on Pedigree that ate dirt all the time.

Owen eats grass all the time, and is not above munching the nice smelly forest dirt we bring up to the planting beds.
All I do is fertilize with 100% organic substances to keep it safe for him. Some dogs just like to graze. It is also sometimes an attention seeking behavior.

If it bothered me I would make sure and not leave him outside unattended, would redirect his attention to an appropriate target when he did it, and use it as an opportunity to practice his "leave it" command.
As he is not compulsive about it I don't really worry.

Yep. Demodex and I go way back. I've dealt with it in 4 dogs now. Three collies and a White Shepherd. Two of those dogs were horribly severe cases, the latest being Dixie, who was hairless just a few months ago. She's the gorgeous girl in my avatar.

Is she cured now or are you still treating it?

BTW, it's an all breed thing and it's now on the rise. Bullys are more prone to it, but most breeds can get it.

Glad it worked for you. We used Promeris to fix Dixie up. Along with medicated and very soothing shampoos (med first, then once the infection cleared the soothing), ton of antibiotics, and a lot of effort to keep the hair clipped and the infection out.

It was tough, but she's worth it.
