Braggs ACV
I've been reading a lot lately about the benefits of giving your dogs organic apple cider vinegar daily (Bragg's brand).
However, all the Braggs articles say to give them 1 tsp in their daily drinking water daily. My dogs are small, as you know, so their water cups that are in each of their crates is also small. I think they drink a normal amount every day, but it's still not that much. They also have one big community bowl in the kitchen. So, if I put a tsp in each bowl: I think their small amount of water in their crates would be very sour and they wouldn't drink it. If they did, and I put it in their crates and the community bowl, that would be 1 Tbsp a day. At 8.00 for about 32 ounces that would get pricey. Is anyone else using ACV, and if so, how? |

But, in a small coup cup of water, don't you think it would make it awful sour? And, doesn't that get expensive?

I take it too, so it's for all of us - plus I do try to do what's best for them, means less of somethings for me but that's okay, I'm too old to be buying much of anything anymore ![]() I don't honestly find it that expensive. I'd have to check the bottle but I think it's about 7+some change for 16oz. They didn't "love" it at first but they do okay now. We use a regular size 8oz stainless steel food bowl to water. I can monitor water intake, which isn't a lot, unless it's really hot. I take a tbsp with the DE in a glass of water or juice (finding juice helps them both go down easier.) Benefits of Vinegar INTERNAL BENEFITS •Rich in enzymes & potassium •Natural antibiotic germ fighter •Fights E Coli and other bacteria, and yeast (candida) •Helps control and normalize weight •Helps improve digestion and assimilation •Helps relieve arthritis stiffness •Helps relieve dry sore throats •Helps remove body sludge toxins •Helps reduce cholesterol EXTERNAL BENEFITS •Helps maintain healthy skin •Helps promote youthful, healthy bodies •Soothes pain of sunburn •Helps prevent dandruff, itching scalp, baldness •Soothes tight aching joints, sore muscles •Helps Nail Fungus Of course not saying it's for everyone, or that all the medical claims are what they say they are - just know it hasn't hurt me any. I find it "tastes" better ice cold. |

I think if you gave everything you 'heard' was 'good for them', you'd be feeding raw, kibble, canned, blueberries, yogurt, cottage cheese, kelp, fish oil, herbs, coconut...the list of stuff goes on.
But I don't think I'd put it in their water bowls. It might deter them from drinking it and when they're thirsty, they have no choice but drink sour/apple-y water. You could offer it to them everyday in their own small bowl with a little water, chilled or heated. I think it would be easier to make a whole teaspoon go down that way, instead of diluting it so much that they probably aren't getting as much as you think they are. |

Oh... yuck. The DE is disgusting enough on it's own and now you're saying that adding ACV is good, too. I don't know if I can handle that one. The DE makes me gag bad enough. It's all chalky and gritty... oh....

Whippet, all of those things ARE good for them and Riddle eats most of them on a regular basis as supplements to her homemade raw diet. She also gets ACV.
Me, I just put it in her food. She scarfs it right up along with everything else. |

Same here. I used to do it in the water bowls, but the dogs water bowls gets nasty fast and I have to change them over and over again throughout the day and I couldn't keep up with how much ACV they were getting. Deb, the way I give my ACV is to mix it with raw pure honey. I havn't had my coffee yet this morning, so I can't explain all the benefits, but it was something recommended by a holistic vet. |

What about just using an oral syringe for a tsp and down it goes? would that upset their stomach's?
Bogey already comes up slightly dehydrated on tests because he doesn't drink enough. I don't want to deter him him from drinking, but I'd like to give it to them if I can figure out a good alternative to putting in their water. |
