Romeo has the RUNS! What 2 do?

My Boxer, who had knee surgery 2 weeks ago has the runs pretty bad. He is not on his meds anymore, so i think it is stress that is causing it?

Any good remedies out there to help firm it up? Vet want me to buy their "special food" They also recommended feeding him rice and lean ground beef?

canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) should help him, if you don't have that on hand boil rice but add extra water - the water off the rice (after cooling) will help firm up his stool. Try cooking it with broth (chicken or beef) to entice him to drink.

I too was going to say canned pumpkin (not spiced).

If he's going quite often, you might look at giving him pedialyte as well so he does not get dehydrated.

It depends on the size of the dog but as a rule of thumb a couple of teaspoons daily for a small dog or a couple of tablespoons for a large dog. You can't overdose them so no worries.

Along with the unspiced pumpkin, I do typically chg the diet to boiled, whole ground brown rice and boiled hamburger until it clears up. The bland diet gives their overactive bowels a rest.

If it keeps up for more than 3 days, especially since he's had recent surgery, I'd take him to the vet and let them get a stool sample. Poor guy!
