Need more Vacc's?

Okay well my GS is 6 months and he's gotten 4 sets of shots all 2-3 weeks apart. 2 sets of shots were given while he was three months. Now my question is,is this enough for him to be immune from all the diseases he got vaccinated for. The vet wanted to get him another set,but we missed the date by 2 months,so would it be useless now ? Anyways those are my questions,Thank you.

I give 3 sets, starting no earlier than 8 weeks. Then rabies can be given at 6 months.

No it would definitely not be useless and I would go ahead with it. In fact, the older the puppy is the less chance the antibodies the puppy got from it's mother will interfere with the vaccine. So a puppy 6 months or older should have a fully developed immune system making the vaccine more affective.

Myself I'd suggest talking to your veterinarian about doing a titer test before revaccinating him.

If you were to go with titers as Daux was suggesting, then your vet can tell you if there are still enough antibodies to prevent illness from his previous vaccinations. The vet will just draw some blood from your dog. If your dog has enough antibodies then further vaccination won't be needed until a later date. I mean why vaccinate again when you don't need to and that's what titers can tell you. They do cost more then vaccinations so most people just vaccinate. But there is a lot of controversy that we may be actually harming our pets by too many vaccines. Just google it and you'll find loads of information. Maybe that will help you make your decision.

Four sets of combo (or were they?) vaccines is more than enough in my book.
It would be helpful, however, to know exactly what he received and at what age.

Your pup is very susceptable to parvo and distemper both are killers. I would do a titer test if your concern is over vaccinating and not just because you dont want to pay for more. It is pretty hard to find vets that titer test and it is costly but it is even more money should your dog need treatment if it catches these diseases or even may loose your pup to them if not recognise the illness quick enough. Only you can make the desicion now that you are informed of the options and what you are looking for in the care of your pup.

Four sets sounds like overkill. Curious as to which vaccines were given, and make sure each had a booster.

You cannot do titers on Rabies (as I would assume the dog has only had one rabies vaccine). They need to have a history of two or more vaccines in order for a titer to show up.

I would get more information before making any decisions.

Agreed- I do not give yearly vaccines because of over vaccination, I run titers. They are not easy to find, and not complete (i.e. Distemper and Parvo titers are easy to find, but Adenovirus not so easy)
