Puppy Shots!
Hello- So I am a new mom to Hunter he is a boxer/Rott mix 50/50 and we got him at 8 weeks old. I went to the vet in town (sm town only 1 to choose from) He already had his first shot, of 3. Well all of a sudden after his 2nd shot from the vet we had another appointment....this puzzled me because it should have been the 3 of 3 shots. She said that the 1st shot may have not taken so she gave him another one then the 2nd a few weeks later, now we are scheduled for a 3rd. Is the vet just taking me for my money....But most of all Will this hurt my puppy he seems fine...This vet has been doing this for like 20 years I would think she would know what she was doing...am I just worried for nothing? Also do you know exactly what the 3 shots are for? ....a worried mom

Actually your first vaccination is worthless, probably second too. Puppies have immunity until between 6-8 weeks from their dam. Most serious breeders (those who study, keep up on latests development, etc.) don't even give inital jab until 9-10 weeks.

my puppies are 10 weeks before I give the first shot then I give another at 14 weeks then they go to there new homes I do not let puppies go untill they are about 15 weeks(I breed toys) then they get there 3rd shot at 18 weeks then they are done with vaccinations for life.
Chaos' breeder gives parvo only at 12 weeks and then never another shot for the life of the dog and that is stated in her contracts. I don't like vets anyway that's all they do is money grab they always come up with something for you to give them more money. |

Here in New England most vets have started giving 4 rounds of puppy shots 3 weeks apart. Your vet is just being safe especially if you live in an area that is warmish all year round because parvo is a greater risk in those parts of the US.
