Zoey is bagging down! *help*

Okay, so our beagle dog, Zoey is all "bagged down"...... ( her teats are all swollen up)
And I can tell there is milk in there.

What?
We never got her bred, and if she's bred to some stray mutt, I'm going to be MAD!!!!!!
Or maybe she's just in heat. What do you think?

The only option is to bring her your vet to be checked, if she's not having a phantom you may still be able to spay her/abort puppies.

You should go to the vet to figure out if she is just in heat or actually pregnant.

See, she's bagged down before...... and nothing ever came from it, so I'm going to just hope that she's in heat, and NOT pregnant! Because.........
I'm going to hate it if she is.
Because I know of a family that had a terrior accidentally get bred by a dashund (sp?) and the puppies ended up with long back legs, and really short front legs. So they're chins were dragging on the ground!
The poor things had to be put down.
Anyway, I don't want anything like that happening, so....... maybe I should get her fixed.

Well, has she ever been out unsupervised while in heat? If she has, it is VERY possible that a dog bred her.

If you don't want to breed her, why isn't she spayed anyhow? Just curious.

It's always a great idea to get a pet dog fixed if your not going to show them. Your best bet is go have the vet take a look at her and let you know for sure if she going to have puppies. If you just wait and see and she is in whelp then you'll want to know when the pups could be coming and how many there could be or when the time comes you may not be ready.

Either way she'll be much happier if you have her spayed in the end and you'll never have to worry again.

If I had a nickel for every person who comes to the forum in complete surprise that their unspayed/unneutered dog might be pregnant "by accident."

If I had a female dog that wasn't "fixed" and I knew it got out from time to time, I'd be wondering why it isn't pregnant.

I agree with the others. Take your dog to the vet and get it checked out. If it is pregnant and you don't want puppies or can't care for her during pregnancy and her and the puppies after birth, ask about aborting the pregnancy.

In any event, she should be spayed asap.

if she is unspayed and is ever left unsupervised then there is a chance she is pregnant...it could be a phantom as well...get her to a vet and have her spayed...i have a beagle who has cancer and chances are if she had been spayed by whoever had her before we found her she wouldent

I think a vet visit is in order... And an immediate spay appointment. It sounds like you have no reason to keep her intact, and I would just have the whole thing taken care of.

Even if it is "just" a false pregnancy (and it sounds as if she has done this before) be aware that they can be terribly stressful for a dog. I only went through it one time and my dog was just beside herself with worry- she didn't sleep, didn't eat, just fretted back and forth with her squeakie toy "babies".
No way would I allow another dog of mine to go through that.

Spaying really is the best option for this bitch- hormonal difficulties are just no fun!
