Sore on tail ?

Well my mom and stepdad have a great pyrense mix she has a thyroid problem and is on meds for that . She's had a sore on her tail for the last 5 monthes or so( it was also there when she went in and discovered the problem ) the vet believes it's from her thyroid problem . But my moms begining not to think so . She's been on her thyroid meds for about 9 monthes now and this sore is till there and getting worse she's constantlly biting at it and it has started breaking open and bleeding . She also has these strange bumps all over her skin . Anyone have any ideas ?

The vet has . It's the strangest looking thing .She'd had some other bald spots when they started treating her but this one just seems to be getting worse.I was wondering if it might be some kind of food allergy as the rest of her skin dosent look the greatest either.

Veterinary dermatologist might be a good idea.
It sounds painful.
