Dandruff

Ollie has dandruff. I feed Weezy Avo Derm (which is great for skin and coat) and it has done wonders for her! Her coat is shiny, clean, soft, and her tail is the most beautiful fan tail (we get compliments all the time). Ollie came with a premium all natural food, called Precise and I've tried to get him to eat the puppy Avo, but he avoids it. He likes Louise's food though, but it's adult and not puppy.. anyway.. i'm not sure what to do about the coat. I bet if he ate the Avo Derm he wouldn't have it.. and I can't bathe him because of his bandage! I also know that if you bathe animals a lot it can increase the chances of dandruff. Is there any supplements that can be given for dry coats? It could be also cause his adult hair is coming in??

Any suggestions or ideas?

I have seen lots of supplements for skin and coat. If she likes the adult food how about mixing 1/2 & 1/2 with puppy food. Be sure to ask your vet first. They actually recommended switching Ariel to adult food at 6 months of age.

Actually weezy, quite a few vets actually recommend adult food for larger breeds, even medium sized. The theory behind that is puppy food makes them grow too fast and they develop hip and joint problems later. Other vets say puppy food is just as good. The veterinary field is full of different opinions.

If he decides not to eat his food and steal a bit of Weezy's food, then take Weezy into a different room and let him eat there. As for Ollie, dont give him any treats or table sc.raps. Put down the food, if he decides to let it go. Fine. Put it up untill next meal time. He will be just fine if he misses a meal or two. No damage will be done. Eventually when you put his food down he will be running to it as fast as he can gulping it down. I did that with Oscar as a puppy and he would polish off everything in his bowl within 2 minutes. Ollie is a small breed though.. and I need him to grow.. he's 5 months and 5 days and only 9.2 pounds!! He's ridiculously skinny too. I feed him twice a day, even more then directed. I don't feel comfortable feeding him Adult food quite yet. I don't feed him any table s***** either, he doesn't like them! LOL. When I feed him, i usually feed him first.. and he typically gets the "if you don't eat it now, you don't get it".. cause Louise will go up and eat it for him! So he'll munch a bit, and then move on. But then when Louise is fed later, he sneaks up and steals it. I tried entirely switching him over since he would pick around the Avo Derm Puppy, but then he had diarrhea. And if i put 2/3 to 1/3 of the other, he still picks out the stuff. I tried Vita-Gravy too to get him to eat it all, but he didn't even like the Vita-Gravy. I might just continue feeding him the way I do.. but maybe find a supplement until he gets older to switch over to the Avo Derm! Does anyone know anything about Flaxseed Oils?

You should do a search on posts by Dobified. She's a wealth of knowledge on that topic and I'm sure she will be more than willing to help.

LAP Chis is on a distinguished road
Someone once suggested to me to try oatmeal based shampoo. They make that stuff for dogs and I'm sure Petco has some.

Exile, bacon fat isn't very good. Because of the processing the fat has quite a few additives. I would stick with fish oil, olive oil or flax.

Yes, like i said its something you can't feed everyday. Only for an emergency to get him interested.

Hey, has anyone tryed that new Iams sauce? It sorta looks like gravy, just wondering because i would like to buy it so Oscar can have a tasty meal once in a while.

I feed Lexus Nutro brand dog food *Natural Choice* Its available at PetsMart. Its a premium dog food...and garenteed to help skin and coat. It has no by-products in it. Lexus had real bad dandruff when I first got her..and she has a black coat. Now shes all shiny and pretty! hehe. U can also try Missin Link as a supplement. Its pretty good too. Better be for the price of it!
