Adequan expiration?

After opening a vile, how long is it OK to keep using? I checked over the leaflet and box and could not find anything. The vet just said to pull from it till empty. Because Jinjo only is getting a small amount every other month, I'm worried a bit about the long term keep, but maybe one of you might know the answer?

A pharmacist should be able to help you....some medications need to be refrigerated after opening.

Is it the canine or the equine version? The canine brand has preservatives, and is MEANT for a multiple pull situation, but the equine brand is NOT. (meaning, once you pull from the equine bottle once, then technically it is no longer good the next day!)

There should be an expiration on the bottom on the bottle. If not, call Luitpold and give them the serial number from the bottle. They should be able to tell you HOW long it is good for.

Keep in mind, that sometimes medications last longer than their expiration date, but to be ABSOLUTELY safe, NEVER use anything after it expration date.

I have unopened bottles of Adequan in the fridge from 2005- I haven't checked, but I would imagine they are no longer any good. Bummer, as it's pricey stuff...

Adequan should be refrigerated before and after opening.

We don't refirgerate Adequan.. never have. And we have open bottles on the shelf too. The expiration date should be on the bottle or box.

Few, Kinda got a little worried there because our vet told us we don't have to refrigerate it.
It is the Canine one also (for Jinjo. My mother would LOVE a horse, but we at this point don't have one).
So, even after you puncture it, its still good to the ex on the bottle then. I just didn't know and didn't want to make a mistake with it so I looked at all the papers and packaging that came with it and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd ask here where I knew some of you have experience with the stuff.

Hmm...our rep told us to store both opened and unopened bottles in the fridge. I have worked for 3 clinics that keep Adequan always in the fridge.

To be safe, I would call Luitpold...

Ok- called Luitpold.

Evidently prior to around 1997 or 1998 they were advising clients to store in the fridge to be safe. But it was causing problems because the cooler temps caused the sol'n to congeal a bit, and therefore have some irritation on injection because it was thicker.

So, they advise storing at room temp, not to exceed 77 degrees. (Eek in my house that means the fridge!)

Since two of my clinics were prior to the revision of the suggestions, I can forgive them, but my current clinic simply has not kept up on things, since it's 10 years later!

And- the canine version IS a multi-draw bottle, so it is good until the expiration date on the bottle. If you are uncertain what this date is, call 1-800-458-0163 and they can help!
