Ewwww

There's nothing quite like being awakened out of a dead sleep at 3:00 a.m. by the sound of a Great Dane squirting diarhea on the floor of your bedroom and upon cleaning up the disgusting mess noticing that once again they are full of tape worms!
He's a foster, George, and was treated for them when he arrived. Since then has been kept on flea preventative meds.
Don't know how this happened but they need to be for sure irradicated from his system this time!!!!
I'll be taking him to the Vet today to get more tape worm drugs for him.
Poor kid but ewwwww, how gross and nasty!

I've been meaning to look into DE for some time and think I'd better do it now.
My fosters are stuck here for a while and I can't afford to be taking them in to the Vet constantly right now. The Parvo bill is quite substantial still.

I keep wondering where that light is at the end of the tunnel????? I do know it's there, I'd just like to glimps it is all.....

Oh boy, I know what you mean being awakened by the sound and auroma of the squirts How many fosters do you have now?

I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel for you, your tunnel might just be a little long, but it is there. Soon you will be singing: I can see clearly now the rain is gone, I can see all obstacles in my way..don't know the rest

Ah, man. That's tough. Dixie's tapeworm came out after a few days of DE... talk about nasty! But, the tapeworm meds the vet gives aren't going to stick around long enough to kill any eggs, so the DE is best in that area. You give it for 30-90 days to kill them all.

OMG Teresa that is horrible!! I had puppies here once who pooped out a load of worms and I couldn't eat noodles for a while! lol! But Great Dane size are unimaginable right now!!! Hang in there, your doing great, and it can only get better. I believe everything happens for a reason, although this one might be one you have to ask at the end "what the heck was this for!!!!"

Keeping you in my prayers.

Does he need a vet check/appt? If you know for sure it is tapeworms can't you just buy drontal plus online and save yourself some money?

Oh and as for the light, you'll see some soon, just hang in there you're going a great job

They don't leave eggs like most worms. They segment off. The meds are designed to kill the head that's attached to the inside of the dog. One dose, kill the head, no more worms.
The round worms need a 3 dose regime to get the adults, juviniles and the just hatched eggs.

I know there are threads here all about DE. Just have to make the time to look them up. I know Dauxside has posted some in particular.

That's the ever common puppy round worms and yeah, hard to eat anything that looks like a worm for some time afterward!
I asked that very question at 3:00 a.m. this morning .
I keep thinking I've made someone very angry with me!

Thanks! I'll have to look this up, I've never heard of it. I would love to have tape worm meds on hand for those occasions. Here you have to go to the Vet to get the tape worm killing meds. Over the counter meds for worms do not work on tapes...

Info: Tape worms look like small flat white things often compared to a grain of rice. They are flat but can push back and forth to look like a white ball or flat grain of rice. You can see them at times where the poo comes out or in the poo itself.
They are nothing like the spaghetti we all know as the common round worm.

How is he doing today? Sorry for the mess. I can't image a Dane mess but if anyone can deal with it, it's you.

hahaha thanks! It's pretty disgusting and takes an awful lot of papertowels to get to where you can scrub the floor for sure!!!

He's got the runs and is unloading the nasty little segments with it. I'm giving him chicken and rice for dinner to settle his probably sore tracts.
I found and ordered the Dontral BE suggested and hope to have it here by Monday.

As you all know or can imagine, I've spent quite an amount on the Parvo puppies and would like to shave the Vet visit cost off when I know exactly what we've got here.
