11 week old puppy has mucus poo?
It has been awhile since I have delt with this so bear with me. My puppy since this morning has had green and yellow mucus poop. He has gone a lot all day and just a little drop at a time. I have only had him for 4 days. He was on bil jac food and I have been switching him over to nutro ultra. What does it sound like the problem could be? Food change?

How did you change over his food? Has he been wormed? |

He is 11 weeks and has been wormed. I have been putting the new food with the old to gradually change him.

I would also be worried about Parvovirus. Any puppy with liquid, mucous, diarrhea has a RED flag for Parvo.
Any vomiting? What's the puppies vaccine history? If it continues, bring him to a vet as soon as possible to get a parvo test done. Parvo can be fatal and the only chances of a puppy surviving is catching it early and giving them nursing and supportive fluid therapy for a few days. |

Your pup can still contract parvo even with all of his shots, but at 11 weeks he's nowhere near done with is puppy shots. Most vets do 4 sets of shots 3 weeks apart. Your pup is likely to have had 2 sets at the max at this age. And the 2nd set kills the first set making a puppy more prone to pick up problems.
I would call your vet and have your pup in, the biggest risk to a small puppy with runny poop is they can dehydrate very fast which will make it harder for them to fight what ever is going on in their bodies. It could be his food making his belly upset, but with a little guy like that a vet visit is never over kill, better safe then sorry. |

There seems to have been many outbreaks of Parvo recently in many different areas. I think I would take a trip to the vet to at least rule this out. Does the pup seem lethargic?

My first assumpion would be either parvo or a stomach bug of some sort. Also have a fecal done to check for worms... just because your pup has been wormed doesnt mean all eggs were killed, or he hasnt picked it up since. My 10 week old pup tested positive for roundworms only weeks after being dewormed.

With that age I would take him to the vet asap. It could be the food change making him have an upset stomach. I hope thats the case. But with a puppy you never want to disregard any vomiting or diarrhea. Parvo can kill very fast. For that matter dehydration is a big issue as well.
Keep us updated. |
