What a Disaster Dog... *roll eyes* Check your nylabones.
I noticed that Kirby he had blood dried on his head this morning, so I immediately checked him all over. I assumed that Holly had bitten him too hard when they were wrestling and tore his ear or scratched of his head. I looked all over his scalp, and felt his ears. Nothin'. Then I checked his front legs (another of Holly's favourite holds,) and nope, his skin is entire.
Time to check the next dog. Didn't have to look hard. Holly has a rather large, red scratch on her lip, and a thin scratch on her eyelid. I thought maybe Kirby grabbed her face, but it was unlikely, he's more a neck-guy. Then I found the culprit. Her favourite nylabone... A wolf size, durable wish bone... had blood on two of the three ends. It was much brighter than what bleeding gums, or a bitten tongue would leave on the bone. She had chewed the ends so sharp and rigid that if she grabbed it wrong, it would scrape across her lip... And I guess she gouged herself in the eye with it too. It's a durable hard plastic one, so it really does get sharp. I hate to take it away because she chews that one several times a day, heck it's kept me sane lots of times. It's her favourite of her 8-some-odd nylabones. I guess this one is past it's prime. ![]()

Ugh.. not cool
Poor girl.I dislike nylabones since they are plastic. I personally do not like the fact that they can ingest the plastic albeit very small pieces but still. How do we know for sure there are not dangerous chemicals in that nylon plastic ? Not to mention the fact it does not digest. Never thought about how sharp they could get. Hope she is ok ... hugs and pats to her. This is of course just my opinion |

Dont throw it away. Bear has two nylabones. And yes he to chews them to a point. The good thing is you can use a sander to round out all the sharp corners, and poof!
A brand new bone. why not save a few bucks? |

Plastic... Not much of a concern of mine. In reality, my dog has ingested maybe two table spoons worth of nylabone shavings over the last 6 months. They go in, they come out.
I had dental appliances with plastic components in my mouth for upwards of four years, and I don't feel like I'm going to die any earlier, or have it be the direct cause of my eventual cancer development. ![]() Shaving them down is a good idea though. |

I had this problem last week borrowing a dumbell, well I noticed before it cut my dogs. Obviously these people let their dogs chew on the plastic dumbell and it is surprisingly sharp.
Apparently that's what a lot of people do with dumbells too, just sand them down.
