Neutering ?'s

Couple of questions
  1. Its an outpatient procdure, yes?
  2. Does any E-Colllar have to be worn?
  3. How long is recovery time?
  4. How long until stitches come out
  5. Does the owner remove them, they go away on their own, or the vet removes them?(the stitches that is)
Thanks.

My little JRT puppy is scheduled for the snip snip in a week.Im nervous for him.

I've only had girl dogs who were previously spayed so Im a bit clueless.

I have had cats neutered before, pretty similar?

Its an outpatient procdure, yes?
Depends on your vet, and your dog, and your preference.

Does any E-Colllar have to be worn?
No. Kirby had one, but he knew how to untie it and take it off. He didn't bother the incision site much anyways. Neuter stitches are in an easy place to tear out though, so be very careful. Holly had one for her spay, but was miserable in it, because she is so tiny. I took it off and fitted her with a shirt instead because she did keep licking the incision site.

How long is recovery time?
Depends on your dog. Kirby's bounce back time was like 0.05 seconds. lol. I went to pick him up and, my God, he was waggy all over, and a pain to keep still for a week.

How long until stitches come out
Does the owner remove them, they go away on their own, or the vet removes them?(the stitches that is)
Again, depends on your vet. Some will use dissolving, and some will have to be taken out in seven to ten days.

Neuter is way simpler, and less painful than a spay. Kirby was done around 5 months, and I don't think he felt a thing.

I think Moo summed it up. Dak was done as an outpatient. No collar was required but he was on pain meds for 3 days following the procedure. He had dissolving sutures so didn't need to re-visit the vet for removal. He was back to his old self in no time flat.

Couple of questions
  1. Its an outpatient procdure, yes? Just to clarify.. what you think is outpatient? As in, you wait in the lobby and the dog is in and out? Not necessarily. But the dog doesn't necessarily need to stay over night either. Some clinics like to keep patients over night after procedures to administer pain mediction through the night.
  2. Does any E-Colllar have to be worn? Depends on the dog.
  3. How long is recovery time? Depends on the dog again, but within 24 hours they are usually back to normal. Take another 3-5 days restricted activity. And incision should be healed within a few weeks.
  4. How long until stitches come out? Usually 10-14 days.
  5. Does the owner remove them, they go away on their own, or the vet removes them? Depends on whether vet uses absorbable or non-absorbable. If they are non-absorbable, they will need to be removed at the clinic by a technician. Usually this is at no charge to the client.

By this I meant be able to pick him up later that day. His appointment is between 9 and 10am and we would be picking him up around 4:00pm if it is outpatient.
