Sponge Dog

Well, now Maia has a new name at the vets - "Sponge Dog". Today when she was outside, she found a sponge that had been left outside on the patio. Now she has really been good, for a lab. Hardly swallows anything but tissues from the bathroom garbage occasionally. Well, she picked up this sponge-a regular sponge you might wash dishes with-and ran away from me with it in her mouth. She wouldn't stop and drop it. I finally caught up with her, and grabbed her by her scruff of her neck. She looked at me, then swallowed it whole. She ran away and thought she was such a good girl. Well, I called the vet and took her in right away. I was afraid it would get stuck in her throat if she tried to throw it up. So they gave her a shot of something to make her vomit, spread towels around her and we waited. After about 2 or 3 minutes, she didn't look too good, and then she threw up everything-including the sponge. The 2 techs and I were cheering-it was so funny. Then the vet gave her another shot to help her feel better. She was a lucky pup because if it got stuck, she would have needed surgery-dopey dog. Then I rushed home as fast as I could before she could throw up in my car. She's now laying on the floor, looking like she really feels sick. I hope the nausea will clear up soon-She's never been laying so still as she is now. Now I'm going to check the yard really carefully for stuff she could swallow. Dopey Sponge Dog Maia.

Glad you caught the whole thing, and took her in right away!

That could have been a disaster in a few days. Total obstruction avoided, good job!
