Ddr shepherd puppy limps

Hi

I have a 7mnth old DDR shepherd that has been limping off and on for a couple of months. Sometimes worse than others. Breeder and other knowledgeable people tell me not to worry that it is "growing pains". Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to be mostly on 1 leg up around the shoulder. It will get better and then he does something and it gets worse again.

thanks for the help!

Could be Pano, but why not take him to the vet to have him xrayed.

first whats a ddr shepherd?

second as far as i know limping is never normal...imo you should take him to a vet right away to have xrays done to see that the issue is...especially if you want to be able to treat it before it becomes worse

In large and XL breed dogs it can be growing pains but I would not take the chance.

If I had a 7 month old puppy, that started limping I would also suspect Pano. HOWEVER- there could be other things, too.

Which leg is it, a front leg or back leg?

And, we LOVE pics. Some of us even love GSD pics...(despite the Malinois avatar)

The GSD in the former DDR had not been bred for show, and had been strictly a working dog, police and border patrol type stuff.

There are some breeders still who are striving to maintain the pureness of their DDR lines, without an influence of West German bloodlines or the like.

In GENERAL (and I hate generalizations) a DDR-bred GSD will be dark in color- black sable, dark b/t, or solid black. They have large, blocky heads. They have less prey/play drive than their Western counterparts, and more aggression and fight.

Now a days, the DDR dogs and the Czech/Slovakian bloodlines get lumped into one category, altough they were once very seperate lines that did not mix very much.

One of the last true DDR dogs.
