Sick Puppy- UPDATE Post #6

Hey Guys
My little girl I just adopted isn't feeling well...

Her symptoms:
  • Loss of Appetite
  • She's puked a couple times. One actually solid, the other is just spitty looking
  • Hasn't drank a lot
  • SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP
What do you think it could be? She just likes to sleep, sleep, and sleep some more, but I think that's just her age. She's quite a bit younger than the other puppy we adopted. I think she's only about a 1 month and a half old. She's a good weight.
I thought maybe distemper because of the loss of appetite and puking, but she's NOT running a FEVER, NO eye or nose DISCHARGE etc... Like I said, she likes to sleep A LOT but she isn't lethargic- if you actually wake her up she'll play with you or with toys and she'll run around with the other dogs.
Oh, she hasn't drank very much today, but she's not dehydrated (based on CRT) and her gums look normal too. When she came here last night she gobbled down like a little pig... do you think maybe she just ate too much too fast and now she's suffering from it? I can't get her to eat ANYTHING!
She won't eat the dog food they were feeding her at the pound (ewwww... pedigree), I tried turkey lunch meat, cottage cheese, and she wont eat the treats she gobbled down last night.

Any thoughts/ideas??!!

*UPDATE* I went and bought canned food and Una is eating it fine... looks like she just doesn't/cant eat the food we have...

As long as she will drink water I wouldn't worry about the food right now. The moment she won't drink anything she needs the vet asap. You can try giving her unflavored pedialite. You'll find it in the infant isle.

If it doesn't stop within a day or two I'd take her to the vet to do tests. Hopefully its just a little bug.

I'm planning on stopping at the store when I pick my bf up to get some soft food to mix in and see if she will eat it then... one can hope. I'm pretty sure she's drank today. I took her to the water bowl and she didn't want any but it might just because she isn't thirsty. Like I said, she doesn't appear dehydrated AT ALL. Even with all of her puppy skin, when you test it it snaps right back lickidy split, and her gums return to the correct color quickly.

Do you think maybe it's just all the stress she's gone through the last two days are getting to her, and she's catching up on her sleep maybe? The day I adopted her was the day after she arrived at the pound, so she HAS gone through A LOT...

And of course, thanks for the reply!!

Yes it could be. But it could also be more serious. Which is why you want to make sure she is at least drinking. Have you tried some chicken (White meat) and white rice?

I don't have any rice... I tried feeding her the quality chicken lunch meat (from the deli) and she didn't want any, but she didn't like it yesterday either, so I'm not sure. I'm going to make something chicken related for dinner, so Ill see if she eats it.

Ill make sure she DOES drink, I just havent been glued to her all day. I know she drank this morning...

We just woke up and went outside and Una was running and playing. Not AS crazy as she was yesterday, but I don't know if yesterday was normal for her... sooo...

I took her to the water bowl and she drank just fine, so we're good there... she drank w/o a problem and w/o me "forcing" her to

I also got her to eat some little pieces of chicken (LITTLE LITTLE) because it will get something in her stomach at least and like, two pebbles of her food. So, I'm thinking she's on the right track and might just be being finicky. It also looks like maybe it hurts for her to eat... so I'm going to get her some soft food. She's young enough that sensitivity makes sense to me. Right now she's playing with a toy.

Cross your fingers!
