Poor guy!

I was on CL yesterday and there is a free to a good home ad up. The dog is 1yr old and was hit by a car a few months ago. The dog's front leg was amputated. The reason why they are rehoming it: moving. It's another military family too. I don't have a problem with the military, my dad is a solider. The problem I have is with the people that get these animals and suddenly rehome them when they move or their spouse deploys. I'm sorry but you knew this was going to happen eventually! I live close to the Army base. Many military families don't understand why they have such trouble getting animals. It's because of the people who have rehomed after only owning them for a short time. It's just terrible!

There was a lady that wanted a puppy to keep her 2yr old son company while his father was deployed. She said he was very sad when he went away for training. I sent her an e-mail suggesting she first really think about this. One because she's going to be doing a lot more work than she normally has to do. Second because her son is so young and really at that age they don't really understand their father being gone (I watched twins that were around that age while their father was deployed). He may have just been reacting to the initial shock of his father suddenly not being there. I doubt a puppy will help. I don't think she realizes how much work it is when you have puppy and a child that young. I suggested that if she really wanted to get a dog to get an older puppy from a reputable breeder. I gave her some reasons why these dogs may be available. I don't think it sunk in but at least I tried.
