I'd like you to meet a very special dog...

This dog is very special to me. She is not mine, in fact I have never met her. Still this dog has had a major impact on my life. Her name is Varner and she lives in Afghanistan. She is a lucky dog. She lived with some Romanian soldiers on a different base and when my dad's group visited she one day 'jumped' into the truck. She lived on my dad's base from then on. She has never eaten dog food, she has has never had a warm bed to sleep on, she has never been walked on a leash, and she doesn't know basic obedience. Still she is a good dog. She greeted the men every time they came in from a mission and when they left to go out on patrol she'd follow them to the gate. She recieved a lovely bunch of stuff from a local pet store. The owner donated over $100 worth of supplies for her. Varner will probably never have a family of her own. She will never get shots or be spayed or even see a vet. She is hated by the people in her home country. They will throw rocks at her, cut off ears of other dogs like her, and some will even be killed. She is an Afghani dog. She was lucky enough to have a group of men that love her. She has brought more into the lives of her soldier's than anyone could ever ask. She was not afraid of the gun shots or the explosions.

I wish there was some way to bring her home to live with us or even the man that loved her the most on my dad's base. He lives only a few hours away from us. She has lived a tough life and has given back so much to these soldiers.

Here is one picture I have of her:

I'll post more pictures tomorrow.

Just sent an e-mail to the SPCA International. I wrote to their Operation Baghdad Pups program. I'll keep you updated and am trying not to get my hopes up too much. I realize it is a lot of work to get her here but there are men taking care of her now. I'd hate to take her away from them but she was loved very much by my father and another man in his unit.

I think I remember a group that took donations in helping bring dogs home that soldiers had adopted overseas. The one I know of is Baghdad Pups (who does work with SPCA international).
