well my dog's nails r long, but not 2 long, a way 2 not have 2 clip them not very often is 2 walk them on hard concrete for a little walk and exercise, 2 help wear down the nails. we hardly
clip my golden retrievers nails.

i have to clip my doxies nails every three weeks or they get clicky on the floor. however, when we went camping he was big into digging holes in the hard campsite ground....and his nails were wonderful! all nice and softly rounded... certainly don't want to train yer dog to dig....just thought i would add my two cents!

If your worried about cutting too far, here is an easy way.
Just clip off the very sharp pointed tip, then get some coarse sandpaper and scrape away a bit at a time on each nail.
Also if your game, under the nail you will see there is a groove, at the start it is filled and thick, hard to explain, but the thick part stops and you get a hollow part where the nail tapers out, if you cut just a little further on from the thick part up towards the tip of the nail, you will be o.k., cause after the thick part the nail is dead, but I always cut further on just to be sure.
