Any English Bulldog folks out there?

A couple hours ago, I pulled an English Bulldog from our animal shelter. She is in visibly poor condition. You can tell she is not feeling well. She just wants to sleep. She has some skin issues, and is very underweight.

After about 2.5 hours of crate time, I came out to visit with her. When I reached in her crate she snapped at me. I am just in hopes this is not a temp. issue.
Do you think she is just sick, or maybe guarding her space?

Poor girl is probably scared and not feeling good. They tend to be a bit snappy from my encounters with them. My uncle always had one, until just recently he has gotten too old and weak to take care of one. They were always just as snotty and hateful as he is I would love to help her. I have always found them interesting, and beautiful.

Dobermom. I believe Quinstar has English Bulldogs. My husband and I researched this breed because we were interested in possibly getting one. I will put all the health deficits aside. These dogs can have quite a nasty temperament and can be very possesive when it comes to "their own space." I do not want to make any rash decisions about the dog that you saw today but I would take it nice and slow and let her have her space. It's quite possible the dog has a temperament problem.

She is doing a bit better. I did read they can have "space" issues. So far I am bribing her with treats. I FINALLY got her to go out and pee!

Thanks for helping this girl Dobermom. Alfie has semi-snapped at me one time and it was because he was extremely scarred. He's never been territorial at all though. Not even with Faust. I'm sure it will take time for her to become comfortable. Just wanting to sleep is not uncommon as Alfie is 100% healthy and that's what he wants to do 90% of his time. Hope it goes well and good luck. Poor thing.

I'm worried she is not feeling well at all, you can see it.

As sensitive as bulldogs are I a, wondering if we need an emergency trip to the vet.

I keep checking this thread because I love this breed, with out knowing her its hard to tell if its tempermental or a health issue, I would say unless it seems life threatening wait until monday and then take her in for a physical and see what the vet says. best of luck to you and her!

I spent all night with her, and I think the vet can wait till. She will actually be going to Chicacgo to Illinois Doberman Rescue on Monday, the director also does Bulldogs. The director has already made her an appointment for Tuesday.

I dont think we have a temp issue, its just simply a STUBBORN issue at this point. I think her snapping was a total fluke.
