Question cornstarch to stop nail bleed?

Hi I'm a newbie please bare with me. I would like to settle an argument here. Is it OK to use cornstarch to clot the quick? If you have no quick -stop or flour...or can it cause an infection?
Thanks
Cheryl

I have heard of that before.. but I'm not sure it's the best choice. I know when cornstarch is mixed with water it turns into a solid and liquid type of goo. So i'm not sure if it would work extremely well. But I don't think it would cause harm to the animal either.

Ive never heard cornstarch stops it before. But i have heard flour works quite well. It clogs it up without burning it. I dont know if constarch burns or not. Pet stores actually have products that are specially made to stop the pain and stop the bleeding. Dont know of any names but ive seen it before.

From the forum, I heard people using EMT gel or a styptic pencil (sp?) but I personally have no experience with it.

There is styptic powder and pens.. which is what they use at our hospital. It's a quick coagulant to stop the bleeding. Although, I've never heard of EMT gel, what is it? Flour is a good home remedy though. "Kwik Stop" is the name of the styptic powder they sell at PetsMart.

She suggested this a long time ago. Hope this helps.

hmm.. i just had never heard of an "EMT gel" and wasn't sure what was made of. My first thought was if it was like Ultrasound gel.. which I'm assuming not, cause that wouldn't do anything!

Hey weezy now that we are on the subject, what exactly is in Ultrasound Gel? Is it radio-active?

It's not radioactive.. but I'm not quite sure what is in it. It's just a gel to help the ultrasonic rays deflect through the tissue. Umm.. it's blue! And it's a little more sticky than KY jelly.
