Funky Pug

Hello All. I just have a general question. My little girl Mylie who is a 4 and half month old pug has now started to have a funky smell. Mainly under her arms in her pits. It smells like dirty feet basically. I started to give her frequent baths because of this and I don't want that to start affecting her. Does anyone know of any possibilities of what this could be or had an experience like this. I don't want to rack up a big vet bill if I don't have too so I am just taking suggestions. I did buy some anti-fungal puppy shampoo because I read something about possible yeast infections. It seems to be the closest resemblance. She doesn't itch or anything though, she just stinks....bad!
All Comments Welcome!
Thanks, Ashlie

Are you washing the folds in her skin/face? This is an important part of daily care for pugs. Other wise they do tend to get stinky. I don't know much about pugs but I do remember hearing this from a friend with pugs.

That's a given that I have to do...I don't want her to get me all nasty let alone the house.LOL no her smell is more than just cleaning the folds that haven't grown in on her yet. She is still too puppy to get all her big folds yet. She is hairless under her arms, She just grew in her her fur under her neck...I am just not sure if it's because she is playing too hard or what.

I know my friend's pug gets stinky quite quickly because of the folds. They have to bathe him about every 2 weeks... he also rolls in 'stuff'.

If you are cleaning your pup well and she doesn't roll in stinky stuff, the smell could be coming from a wide range of things. Have you talked to your vet about her being stinky to get his/her opinion?

Where does the smell come from?

Coat? Bum? Ears? Face? Eyes? Arm pits?

What type of food do you feed your dog?

The smell comes from her armpits only. She gets only dog food and treats. Her dog food is Beneful Puppy. Many people say it could be table scraps or something, but I have never fed mylie anything out of doggy made products. No human food whatsoever. I don't want a begging puppy. But yeppers, nothing unusual that I give her.
She doesn't wallow into things she is always supervised. So I am not sure what could cause it. Unless it's just from constant getting warm after playing. She plays hard on her own. Or when she gets up from sleeping she kinda feels icky. So I dunno. I live in a small country area only one vet within 50 miles...which get this...is out for the holidays! So if I have to get her care I would have to find something in the city. Which there you have to pay for any type of advice Why I am going to the forums first. It's not that great big of an issue, but I just don't want it to come to something bigger.

Well, you could try sponging the stinky areas with a mild vinegar solution (Tablespoon to a quart of water) to see if that clears the odor if there's no broken skin or inflammation.

I would consider a higher quality food if you can get it. Beneful has an awful lot of fillers and may contribute to the "Eau de Stinky Dog".

Ditto, Vinegar is wonderful for skin conditions, and as a cleaner, antiseptic.

There may be a yeast infestion, or fungus going on in the pits, maybe some monostat cream.
