TRANSORT help needed (MASTIFF mix).

I'm trying to adopt this guy he's at Athens high kill shelter and I need to get him to ONT Canada.

Stewart - #27321
(When calling about a dog, refer to the dog by its ledger number, not its name!!)

Age:
1 year
Breed:
Mastiff mix
Gender:
Male
Impound date:
11/25
Ledger number:
27321

Why Choose Me?
Stewart arrived as I was leaving, so I didn’t get to know him very well. What I do know is this; he’s very big, very handsome, and very slobbery, in a good way of course. He tries to walk politely on the leash but sometimes he get’s too excited. When you’re 120 pounds you can’t help it if you drag people around a bit. He seems to know the command “sit.” He may know others but he was so busy with being impounded and meeting all of the new people that he didn’t have a chance to show us. Stewart is definitely a gentle giant.

Oh my he's handsome. Looks like a rescue we just adopted out!
Athens is in GA. I'm guessing you're on the east side of the country? Google dog transport and see if there's an organization closer to you that can help with transport for him.
I'd reach the shelter asap to let them know also.
Any way can $ you can fly him up? If so, ask the shelter to get someone to spring him and get his healths certs in place for you.
Transport is a pain and a ton of work but worth it all when one of these dogs gets to safety and on to a 2nd lease on life!

You have been given some great suggestions already - it might be beneficial to list the major cities he would need to travel through as well.

Gas is very cheap nowadays.
Easiest thing would be to go get him. Flying a dog that size is expensive as normaly they won't fit in a #700 vari kennel, and a wooden crate would need to be built. And the larger crates don't fit through the baggage doors of any but the largest planes.
Of course it depends on his height- if he fits a #700 things are marginally easier.

There is a reason you don't see many west coast giant breeds at Westminster

BC, keep me updated. I'm somehwere between GA and Ontario(NW ohio to be more exact). If the transport is passing through my way, I may be able to help.

I'm right near the NY and Canada border! Half and hour away in fact! It's a bit harder to get over there now a days but if they come through NY I'm sure I could volunteer or find someone that could. Keep us updated!
