people make me crazy

so im looking at the delaware valley siberian husky rescue and there is a section for curtesy owner postings...yeah there are 11 dogs listed and 4 of them are listed as being 10+ years old and 3 are 5-7 or 6-8 ...it makes me so sad to see people dumping their older dogs like that...my parents husky luna was the same when adopted her she was estimated to be 6-8 so shes around 9 or 10 now and her being older and out of the young crazy stage is the reason we adopted her but still i cant imagine dumping her now...people suck

I know- that's why we asked for the oldest, most unadoptable dog they had when we went to the shelter looking for a companion for Owen.

We came home with The. Best. Dog. Ever.
Seriously- Roxy is such a gem I cannot comprehend how someone could let her go.
I am daily impressed with how smart and obedient she is- a far cry from my million dollar Owen, that's for sure

i just dont see how some people can have a dog for that long and then decide to just give them up...dixie was supposed to be a foster but i fell too in love to give her up after a few days i cant imagine after years

There may be reasons with they way the economy is that ppl have to give there dogs up. If they lose there job and house. What are they gonna do have the dog live on the streets with them? I know here 450 people lost there jobs in the last 2 weeks

Yes, I am so upset when people 'rehome' senior dogs. I have seen an ad that said "We have active kids and the dog just doesn't play with them anymore.". I called and asked how long they have had him. They said since he was a pup. I hung up the phone and went to my room to cry over a dog I didn't even know.

this issue of Modern Dog had the Mutts Shelter Stories and they had one about a senior dog. It was the first strip and after reading it I was crying. Mind you I'm reading it at work so Heather asked me what was wrong. I had her read it and she ended up buying a copy on her lunch break.

I hate it too, at class the other night a friend was talking to the trainer and she said her friend was giving her dog away after 3 years. none of us could comprehend how you could do that. I like what my trainer said...

They may be pain in the butts, but there my pain in the butts that are never leaving me.

The people being discussed aren't people losing their homes and living on the street. They are people who have gotten tired of owning a dog and jumped on the first excuse they could to get rid of it.

And even in the case of job loss or moving, I know I could find a way to keep my pets- I wouldn't stop looking until I did. The folks we are complaining about just don't care- it's not as if they were tortured souls. They are folks that just bail on their pets.

Even the very, very worst case scenario (my death) would have me selecting their new homes very carefully. I already have, as a matter of fact- it's in my will. And the life insurance goes towards their care.

Where there is a will there is a way. You just have to think about it and care enough to do it.
