Is loratadine/claritin safe for a dog?

Or what about zyrtec. Has anyone given either of these safely to their dog for allergies. I got the results back on my dogs allergy testing and while he has allergies to 8 different foods he also has alot of other allergies like houshold dust/mites and trees, grasses, weeds, mold....you name it he's allergic....well not everything but alot of common things. And with winter upon us in MN we do have more problems with dust in our house.

Benadryl or chlorpheniramine(sp) are what I was told to use. Benadryl wasn't effective the chlor is/was.

Well- if you just got allergy test results back, presumably there will be a follow up appointment or you can at least speak with your vet about treatment.
I would never give any animal a human drug that I hadn't discussed with my veterinarian, or at the very least heard from good authority (a source I personally knew and respected) that it was OK.

Also, maybe do some Googling on diets for allergy dogs. Sometimes a simple diet tweak can alter their immune responses remarkably. Allergies are just an immune system in overdrive, so look towards stabilizing that IMO.
