Clavamox and UTI's

Uma was exhitibing symtoms of another UTI. Granted, we just had her at the vet in September for the same situation. I was "lucky" that I did not have to bring her in. She's on Clavamox 750 mgs twice a day. The bill for the Clavamox was a little over 150.00. Is there anything cheaper out there that is comprable to clavamox?

I can't remember the name of the antibiotics Lola is on, I will check when I get home, but they were no where near that price and seem to be doing the job.

Alot of antibiotics cause UTI's- no just in pets but humans also. I keep my dogs on cranberry whole berry capsules especially if on antibiotics. There was a idea that it might be from dehydration most antibiotics cause. ( why they tell you to drink plenty of water) but of course- a dog only drinks when they are thirsty- ie not forced.. ( will see if I can find the link to this but its not a scientific finding- just a coalilation.)

sorry forgot to add- check out cepholoxine.. Similar as a broad spectrum antibiotic but much less costly..

I have had her on cranberry pills and even changed up the pills when you said go with whole berry capsules. Where are these UTI's coming from? She has licked her back end so fiercely that at sme points she dribbles blood. I could not wait any longer. I could not have Orson jumping all over her like he did last time thinking that she was in heat.

I just don't get it. Is it because she squats low to the ground when she urinates?....could it be "splash back" that is causing this? Plus she does get 1000 mgs of vitamin C a day too.

1000 mg is way too high. I would not give over 500 mg in a day and usually just 250... Send me a email - I have a link for you..

Yea I would. Even with a 100 pound dog I never gave over 500 mg. And mostly give 250 twice verses 500 once a day. While vitamin C is still water soluable I would not push the limits with that.

She could be getting infections due to splash back or if she has an inverted volva. Try cleaning her girl bits with baby wipes after she pees and see if that helps keep her infection free.

I thought a lot of it could be do to splash backs but GEEZE! I have Orson who I have to feel his "bits" because in conformation class he wants to sit down when someone touches his back and under there. Now I have to wipe Uma's bits. Geeze...and what do I do all day?.....maybe diddling dogs!
