Harvey's hurt himself...

Poppy & Harvey were playing whilst out on a walk a couple of weeks ago and I heard him yelp – he does this when Poppy grabs his lips! But this time he carried on yelping. I looked to see him laying on his side struggling to get up. We ran over and I picked him up and his leg just hung there lose so we thought he’d broken it. We managed to get him to walk to a bench, made him lay down and gave him a rest before going back to the car and the vets. Well the next two dogs that came along he was up and running like nothing had happened. So we didn’t go to the vets & I just kept and eye on it.

At the weekend he was favouring that leg again, only ever so slightly that hubby didn’t even notice and said I was seeing things. Then after a couple of minute he was fine.

This morning he was playing with his friend out on our walk and again I heard that terrible yelp and yes, you guessed it he’s hurt his leg again. Only this time he wouldn’t put any pressure on it and he limped the whole way home.

We have a vets appointment tonight and I’m worried it’s really serious like ED or something. I keep thinking that if he’d only sprained it the first time he wouldn’t have done it again in such a short time so there must be something more serious and a major underlying issue that’s causing the problem.

Poor Harvey…

Poor Harvey, if he sprained it he's won't have had enough time off yet for it to heal, with just a few days of home rest. Hope he's ok and he just needs a long run of house rest.

luvin my dogs is on a distinguished road
As per my recent experience, I am horrified of lameness. I got off lucky with the cheaper surgery. but it was not fun.
Good luck at the vet!

Don't panick,just yet!.
He might just have sprained his leg and just needs to rest!.
When Titus does that,I give him ARNICA 30,3 pellets, every couple of hrs for 3 or 4 days and rest him,for a good week!.During that time, minimum exercisel!.Just, take him out on a leash to do his business and then, right back home!.Forgot to mention that,I did allow him to swim,in the pool cos it's gentle!.
Glad you're taking to the vet to check him,out but wouldn't go and imagine the worse!.Keep us posted,Laurie

Sounds like to me a muscle pull. That can take quite a while to repair itsself especially if he keeps reinjuring it. Solid rest without play with other dogs for about 10 days should really help alot. Going to the vet would rule out a fracture.

I forgot to say I put him on Arnica after he hurt it playing with Poppy and again when I saw him limping this weekend but I didn't limit playtime. I've left him in his crate today - I want to rule out anything serious that's why I'm going to the vet. But you know me, Ms Worrywart always fearing the worse!

Usually takes about 7 days to heal a strained muscle or ligament.

Loki was limping on and off for several months. I took him to the vet - spent tons of money and they found nothing wrong with him so they figured it was a pulled muscle that he kept pulling.

I hope it's just a sprain BE. I think he would need to rest up and give it a change to mend before playing any more. I'd be ruling out anything serious and obvious with a vet too first.
Hugs to Harvey!
