sick dog can anyone help?

i have a 13 pound 6 year old jack russel terrier who is ill, i am not sure what if anything i can do for her beside going to the vet. my vet is not in until 6 am (the one i trust), i could go to the emergency vet but my vet saw her for this problem a week ago and has all the tests.

she is shaking and pacing a bit. she had a stool sample done and they ruled out bacteria or criters in her intestines. they did blood tests and found her sugar level slightly high and did one in house and one sent out test for pancreatitis and came back thinking that is what she had. we have had her on antibiotics (for several days) and she was on a stomach coating medicine because she was throwing up. they gave me oral pain medicine which i have given her.

what should i do? go to the emergency vet now or wait til 6 am and see my vet? is there anything that i can do to make her more comfortable?

thanks for helping

Whenever in doubt get professional advise. Call the ER clinic and see what they advise.

I hope your dog is okay.. I am going through similar issues with my dog and possibility of pancreatitis.

Although.. she is not on any oral medication in addition to what she was on previously.

sick dog update

I am so grateful to say that Phoebe's illness seems to have passed. She is no longer displaying pain in her back end and is interested in food again.
We are on the bland i/d formula so no cookies right now but the interest is encouraging!

I have never even been to a blog page before so forgive me for not knowing much about how to do this (any tips are appreciated).

I am though VERY grateful to have found this page as the act of looking and posting my blog somehow helped me to be ok with the decision to wait for the morning vet.

They advised this morning with the lack of symptoms that making an appt with the vet who has treated her since we got her on Monday would be preferable as it seems this may be difficult to diagnose (has been so far).

She had her first episode about a year ago and at that time (at the emergency all night vet in the next city over from us) they did x rays and diagnosed it as a back injury. Get this she actually had a straight face when she said I should keep the dog from moving for 3 weeks, not even letting her walk out to do her business but keeping her in the cage and carrying her to the potty I asked if the vet was familiar with the breed (i was kidding), she was not kidding and said as much imobilization as possible was the RX.

I am not sure this is the same thing but the symptoms are the same: tucking the tail and trembling seem consistant. That visit we had the xrays sent to our bestest vet ever (DR Little at All Creatures Animal Hospital in Gorst WA), he did some further tests and did diagnose some back issues but was not convinced that was the issue. I have always felt it was digestive in nature as it seems to "pass" with time.

So between the first and this time there have been several episodes of varying degree and length. Most were hours or 1/2 day at most and not too severe. Some we thought might be just anxiety even as she can have seperation anxiety and be nervous from different noises (we have had to remove all the dinging and ringing noises on the cell phones and computer as that would make her tuck her tail and shiver just like these other episodes except it would clear in minutes.

So... I guess we go back and ask for a difinitive answer, could pancreatitis do this or is it something else and what can we do to help?

That is where we are and after a limited sleep night she and I are both quite and she is calm with no shivering or pain symptoms since about 2:30 AM (west coast time). She does still have an unusually quiet demeaner and is sleepy which seems normal after the stress.

Thank you SO much for being there, just the post seemed to help and it is a wonderful discovery for a "technology challenged" but dog loving person.

Hope to talk with you more

thanks, she is much better but we will continue to try to find out what it is as it seems chronic now.
