Unhappy cocos very sick temp 104!update. back from vet

Coco is about 14 years old. last week she stopped eating and wasn't getting up on her own i was thinking that it was just b/c she was in pain form arthritis so i took her to see the vet hopping they could help her but she ended up having a temp of 104! she also said that she looked jaundiced so she drew blood to check her liver. the blood work showed that her white blood count was high. she was sent home with nutri-cal and an antibiotic. she got much better and was eating and acting normal she finished the meds on Friday. she started limping on her right front yesterday but she was laying on it for a long time and it got better once she was up and walking around she let me mess with it and it seemed fine. today there is a spot that she keeps licking on that leg up by her chest that is red and puffy. her temp in still 104. and she's not that interested in eating but she will take the nutri-cal and chicken. i think im going to take her back into the vet tomorrow. Oh when she went back to the vet for her check up and fluids her temp was still 104 but they said that she was fine to just keep up with the meds. what could it be? doesn't high white blood cell count also mean cancer? her temp was 103.5 at 7am but then went back up by 12pm.

I hope Coco starts feeling better soon. I wouldn't assume from a high white count that cancer is the issue although that is certainly a possibility. White cells help fight infection & produce antibodies against viruses/bacteria.

Good luck. I hope the antibiotics start working very soon & she's back to normal very soon.

Depending on where you live, it could be a tick born sickness. Did they test for all of the common and uncommon ones like Lyme?

Good luck, I think I would go see a different vet. The last think I want my vet to tell me is a temp of 104 is fine and finish the meds. I would want them to go above and beyond to figure out what's wrong.

back from vet!

we went to the vet today and they drew more blood to check for rocky mount fever or other tick problems and she also wanted to check her kidney's b/c she is peeing alot like 5-7 times a day. the spot on her leg isnot bothering her today and just looks like a scratch. they gave her a shot of pain meds and a antinflamitory. she started her on a different antibiotic that will target the kidneys and a tick born illness. she seems much better now that she got that shot. she ate two bowls of food. but she has lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks. The vet didn't see her last time we went for a check up and fluids it was just the vet techs that looked at her. they didn't take her temp. i asked what it was and they said "oh let me take her back and check" so it was a tech that told me just to finish the meds.

Great to hear her temp is going down! Hopefully the new antibiotics are helping and she'll be better in no time!
