"Beginner Breeds"

My boyfriend is starting to come around to the idea of a dog in his home (He's already accepted the fact that when we get married, he'll have a step-Bella) lol

He said last night he would like a Huskey. I've known a few huskies and I'm not sure that is the most appropriate breed for him. He has a hard enough time with Bella (The fur, the energy, etc.) What are some breeds that you would reccomend for a first time (since he was a little kid) dog owner?

I thought standard poodle, lab/golden, or something similar....

I would not suggest lab. Lots of hair and energy may be hard to handle.

Clifford was my first dog as an adult. In all honesty, he was so easy. He has never peed in the house, number 2 probably less than 4 times. They are very low shedding. Do you think a Doberman would be too much for him? What kind of dog did he have as a kid?

Definitly not a lab or golden. Standard poodles are absolutly huge. I would suggest a medium sized dog thats not too energetic and is intelligent enough to train without many problems.

Actually, I tried to talk him into the dobie pup we saw a few weeks back. He says he wants a "fluffy" dog (Duh, but he doesn't like hair?!?!) lol (That is why I suggested poodle...) He loves goldens and labs (and I WILL be there to help....some. ) I think a dob would be great.....

Any thought on specific breeds? I would like to see him get a short hair breed...he wants "Fluffy"

BTW, Dobermom....his mom bred Old English Sheepdogs when he was a little boy....(maybe where he gets the "Fluffy" desire?!)

Bulldogs and Dachshunds are usually what I reccomend as first time dogs.

Hairy and relatively easy... Hm...

Actually, Zach is really into organizations like that...that help animals....I may be able to play the "charity card" to get him to consider at GH! I think that would be a FANTASTIC Breed for him!!! Beautiful, yet not tooo hyper in the house. Great companion...

LOL, I know what you mean.
I like the Greyhounds because they are such sweet, loving, couch potatoes. I had my home visit and everything already done, but I kept leaning back to the Dobe.
