Sick Huskies
Well the past few days Blake was throwing up, no diarrhea that i'm aware of.. Caleb hasn't mentioned that he has. He hasn't been eating his food since 2 nights ago and would have to make him eat it before that. Caleb actually took his food and dish back to his room and fed him there and Blake actually knocked the bowl over so Caleb picked it up and put it back in the bowl and brought the vaccum out to clean up the crumbs and Blake scarfed the food down as soon as the vaccum started. He thought he was sucking up his food! lol. But the not eating just started when we switched him from Blue Buffalo large breed food to just regular adult food on saturday so we were thinking he has an upset tummy and now just starting to be a typically picky eating husky.
We took them to the dog park yesterday morning to play in the snow (they dont live in the same house). Now early this morning Roxy vommited just a little.. no food just some liquids because she hasn't had breakfast yet. I hope its just a bug but with all the parvo talk on here it makes me nervous. How fast would it develop? Blake started vommiting sometime towards the end of last week. They are both 10 months old this month and had all their puppy vaccinations last year and will go back for their yearly check up and vaccinations in June/July. I think i'm going to go to Petco and pick up a little bag of Blake's old food and see if he'll eat it.. I just can't return the other bag.. i'm sure they won't take it back so if thats the case that he's being picky I guess i'll take this bag to a local shelter or something and get a bag of his old stuff . I didn't want to give in to him being picky if thats the case but now i'm just worried. Any thoughts would be helpful. thanks! |

It's never a good idea to keep feeding a dog who is vomiting. As that could make the problem worse, let him fast for 24 hours, make sure he's getting offered fresh clean water all day long. After 24 hours off the dog a very small amount of very bland food like cottage cheese and boiled (until the grains split open) rice, scrambled egg and yogurt, boiled chicken or a mix of any of these. If the dog can't keep down a 1/4 cup of any of these foods or the vimiting goes on for more then 2 or so days it's time to go see the vet. More due to the fact that if the dog is vimiting they aren't keep liquid down and can dehydrate making them more sick and drinking water isn't helping because it's just coming up with he food.
You can bring the bag off food back to the pet shope all most all dog food has a 100% return policy. Parvo comes with explosive liquid from both ends of the dog. There will be blood and a smell like you've never smelled before and will never forget for the rest of your life. If you find that the dogs are having bloody, liquid poop that smells like death run to the vet, call them first and tell them you think your dog has parvo and your comming in. They may not want you to wait in the waiting room (for the sake of other pups in the building) that is why calling fist is better for everyone. As for you girl it sounds like she may just have an empty tummy and the stomach acid building up make her vomit. If I feed my boys dinner early one day and then sleep in the next morning they will sometimes get acid stomach and vomit. If that happen I give them 2 or 3 treats to get the acid down then wait 15 min before feeding a full meal. Good luck |

I always assume my dog isn't protected, even with vaccinations, until 6 months of age. They dont have a full immune system until a year of age. It doesnt sound like parvo, like sal mentioned, you would know if it was. However, it wouldn't hurt to take a stool sample, and the dogs to the vet for a full examination to rule out anything serious.
They most likely caught a bug, which isn't surprising because of their age. Ensure food it good quality, fresh, and water and food bowls are clean and disenfected. There isn't anything nasty one could have gotten into? Hope they feel better soon! I'd be giving some electroyites as that can only help. Were they wormed recently? |
