Arrow Mason and the Runny Monster

EVERY SINGLE DAY that I have put him in his crate, I return home to a covered in runny poop cage and puppy.

He was just at the vet and all looked good. Also, I did have to switch him to his new food cold turkey as I was never given any information on what he ate before. I switched using a ton of rice and pumpkin. Well, I had weaned him off the mixture, thinking all was well.

Should I attempt to put him back on it? Do you think it's from that or stress?

I normally get home from work by 9:30. I leave at nine and it takes a half hour. Today, though, someone called off and I got stuck working their shift instead. I didn't even leave until 10:30. I was definately not happy. When I returned home, I could smell it from the car. He had rolled in it and threw it all over the living room. OMG... that was NOT fun to clean up. I had to throw him in the bath, take the crate apart piece by piece (thank goodness for pin crates... this is why I hate folding crates), scrub the floor, scrub the walls, etc.

It's normal other than the fact that it's runny. Color is normal, smell is normal if he doesn't roll in it , and it's not terribly runny anymore, either. But, it's only in his crate that he does it. He doesn't have accidents in the house.

I work 6 hour shifts. He can hold it for 8+ hours while we sleep, so I know it can work.

Orson can hold it knowing that we are home and while we are asleep, yet if we are gone more than 5 hours even though he is crated there is a chance that he may poop.

You just got Mason, it could be separation anxiety.

All I know is that cleaning up Mason poop every single day is getting old fast, lol.

What would happen if you left him for just say three or four hours in his crate when you go out.....would he still poop?

I don't have a clue. I've only had him for a week now and haven't left for just a few hours. I don't plan on doing so, either. I generally don't leave the house for more than an hour or less then 6. Three hours is unheard of.

It was worth a shot to ask. I am like you, I don't think I would be over joyed to come home to runny poop and stench everytime I had to work.

I would add some pumpking back in to his food. But even though he is still a pup I would either feed him dinner much earlier in the day or give him a very small snack before going to work then feed him his real dinner when I got home at 9:30. It could just be that his belly is full, when you go to work, he gets up set that you've gone and like the rest of us what's in the gut gets runny when we get up set and out it comes.

Some times just changeing meal times a bit helps keep a clean crate. I feel for you, not much in can ruin a day like coming home to a poo covered puppy and crate when all you want to do is hang out with the dogs for a while then go to bed.

he may have had a bad experience in a crate where he was before and being left in one causes him stress...is there anywhere in the house you could leave him enclosed but not crated to see what would happen? kitchen or bathroom so its tile if he does still explode
