Luke has a lump

Luke has a rock hard lump on his left shoulder. Its about the size of a large skeeter bite. Doesn't seem to be painful, or itchy.

Should I take him to the vet now, or wait a bit longer to see if it gets bigger?

He hasn't had a vaccination in that spot has he? They can leave a hard, small lump for a few weeks, especially rabies.

If no, I would have it checked out, especially because it's very hard. Lipoma's (benign fatty tumors) are typically soft and moveable.

Your vet may want to do a needle aspiration where they simply remove some cells from the lump and exam them to see what's going on.

So, I wouldn't worry too much since lumps can be from many things, but I'd get it checked out soon if there was no vaccine given in that spot.

I was thinking the same thing Deb said to you about a shot. I know when Vanilla had a cortizone shot years back it swelled up like an egg and was as hard as a rock. It took quite a few weeks to go down.

He hasn't had any shots in a long time. Just his boosters and those were months ago.

Then I would get it needle aspirated. Let us know how it goes.

Chloe has one too, but it's small. It seems to disappear and reappear.

Is it bugging him? i would take him in and let the vet assistant look at it.

I took Chloe in once and all they did was squeezed it and it just dried up, fell off a few days later.

I had him to the vet and they sampled it. She didn't find any cells in it that made her nervous. So we are just going to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get bigger
